Overview


 

Shannan area, as a place to interpret Tibetan culture and explore the origin of Tibetan history, is a must-visit place for every traveler. This tour starts from the center- Lhasa city to Shanna, it brings tourists to witness the imposing sightseeing like Potala Palace, Johkang temple and the first palace in Tibet history Yongbulakang, then we will continue visiting Shigatse, the second biggest city in Tibet, feel its rich culture and history.

Daily Itinerary


 

Day 1 Arrive in Lhasa
 

No matter you reach Lhasa by train or airplane, your guide will meet you and take you to your hotel. On the way, Clients may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/ Brahmaputra river (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa river.
 


After arrival at your hotel, the rest of the day is totally yours. You can choose to take a rest to adapt to the high altitude. Or you can go out to explore the local area directly.



 


Day 2 Lhasa City Tour - Potala Palace, Johkang Temple, and Barkhor Street (B, D)
 

After breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your hotel, and bring you to the Potala Palace which is the symbol of Tibet, built in 641AD, it is also the winter palace of the Dalai lama.

 

After lunch, we will go head to Jokhang temple which was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century. It was the spiritual center of Tibet, pilgrims from every place of Tibet will trek here, making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple. Around the temple is the famous Barkhor Street, where you can enjoy the traditional Tibetan tea and or buy some special souvenirs for your family members.




Day 3 Lhasa City Tour - Drepung, Sera Monastery (B)
 

In the morning, you will visit Drepung monastery which is one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet, it has more than 500 years history as the largest monastery in the world, the famous annual Shoton Festival is also set here, and during this festival, they will exhibit the precious huge Thangka.

 

In the Afternoon, Tourists will visit another outstanding Gelug Monastery--Sera Monastery. The most important attention point is the famous Monks Scriptures debate at around 3 - 5 in the afternoon.




Day 4 Lhasa to Samye monastery (B)
 

Set out in the morning, it is about 3 hours driving from Lhasa to Tsedang, almost road condition is good, after pass the North Bank of Yarlung Zangbo River, it is nearly 40KM sandy road, very dusty and bumpy. we will arrive at Samye around noon, after lunch and short rest we will continue visiting Samye monastery, and overnight at Samye.




Day 5 Samye to Tsedang
 

After breakfast, we will drive back to Lhasa, along the way we are going to visit the Yumbu Lhakhang, the Trandruk.

 

Yongbrakang: It is the first palace in Tibetan history. It has a history of more than 2100 years. The size of the temple is very small, but it is very magnificent. Standing on the highest tower on the mountain, you can have a good view of the Yalong Valley and the countryside.

 

TrandrukTemple: Pearl Tangka the treasure of Chuangzhu Temple, is also a rare treasure in the world. The whole Tangka is 2 meters long and 1.2 meters wide. Made by one diamond, two rubies, one sapphire, 0.55 grams purple rubies, 0.91grams Turquoise (185), 15.5 grams gold and 4.1 grams coralIt,it is really not easy to preserve such kind of valuable Thangka




Day 6 Tsedang to Gyantse (3950m) via Yamdrok Lake and Karo Glacier (B)
 

Today, we will head to Gyantse. On the way, we will firstly pass over the Gampala pass (4790 m), and tourists will have a glance of the fairytale holy Yamdrok lake. Tourists can get spectacular views of Holy Mount Nojin Khangsar and the Jade-Green lake. Later, we continuously go westward to Gyantse. Gyantse was historically Tibet's third-largest city (after Lhasa and Shigatse).

 




Day 7 Gyantse to Shigatse

 

After breakfast, we will start to visit the famous Pelkor Monastery and The Kumbum. In the afternoon we will drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. You can go to see the Local Tibetan Market and experience local daily life there.

 

Day 8 Shigatse drive back to Lhasa
 

After breakfast, we will go to visit today’s highlight--Tashilunpo monastery. Tashilhunpo, one of Tibet's most important monasteries, is a Geluk monastery in Shigatse that was founded in 1447 by the First Dalai Lama Gendun Drub.

 

In the afternoon, we will drive back to Lhasa. there is no problem to view the splendid sights on the way.






Day 9 Lhasa Departure
 

Your guide will pick you up and transfer you to the airport or train station according to your schedule, finishing the meaningful tour.
